What is Alexander Technique?
Alexander Technique is about unlearning the bad posture and habits you've learned over a lifetime and re-teaching the body to work in the way it's meant to. †In this way you can enable your body to move freely without stress or pain.†It gives you the opportunity to change your life if you have issues connected with backs, necks, joints, stress, activities, performing, etc.
The Technique is usually taught on a one-to-one basis, since your individual habit patterns, life history and presenting problems mean the sessions need to be tailored to suit you personally. †Private sessions involve an initial assessment followed by a combination of teaching work and gentle, subtle couchwork to assist your body in the changes you need to make. †
Gail's one-to-one clinics for assessing and treating individual problems are held in the Wellness Centre, Northallerton. From time to time she also offers introductory workshops in North Yorkshire and County Durham, where you can learn general principles of the Alexander Technique and where you can learn preventative strategies to avoid problems in the future.
How can it help me?
Although it isn't appropriate for everyone, the Alexander Technique can help people with a wide range of physical and stress-related problems, not just bad backs. The site includes personal experiences from many of Gail's students of how the Alexander Technique has helped them in various ways, often completely transforming their lives.
